Introducing New Programs

Dear Friends,

by Laura Steckler

All of us at C.W.C. feel that our organization needs to extend its scope further into the community. In the past, we have functioned primarily as a women's information and referral service. Our support groups have been our only in vivo contact with Cleveland women.

One way we would like to expand is by offering a community education program for Cleveland women, consisting of various classes and workshops taught by women, and available at nominal costs. I see several ways in which this kind of program can be useful: 1) it will present women as informed knowers and doers -as positive role models, 2) it will provide women with alternative ways of expanding political and self-awareness, 3) it will provide women with skills and information not available elsewhere because of prohibitive cost or lack of feminist perspective, 4) it will provide additional meeting places for Cleveland area women, 5) it will allow area women to use their skills to make money.

Because we don't know how receptive Cleveland women will be to such a program, we are starting with a small scale pilot program, consisting of three classes and one workshop, described below.
